Adhering to our sustainability promise when Kingsfield first began, we are excited to announce that we will be the only estate in Victoria to be using Reconophalt – a new recycled asphalt – for road construction.
Reconophalt contains tonerplas (soft plastics & Printer toner), RAP (Recycled Asphalt), recycled oil and can contain recycled glass. The Tonerplas, RAP, oil and glass are all 100% recycled and mixed with an asphalt mix for a more environmentally-friendly finish.
To put the positive effect this will have on the environment into context, laying Reconophalt in Kingsfield’s first three stages will mean:
- 2,753,684 plastic bag equivalents would be diverted from going into landfill.
- 1,025,882 glass bottles would also avoid going to landfill.
- Toner from 62,784 printer cartridges would be recycled into the asphalt mix.
We are proud of this exciting ecological development and will continue to implement environmentally-conscious construction processes that will help our community long into the future.
